Game Mechanics

Roadwar 2000 is a strategy game in turn in which the player embodies a gang leader to restore order in the United States in prey to anarchy. To that end, it must rely on a militia to manage the needs of petrol, medicine, ammunition, weapons, vehicles and food. The game takes place on two different scales. On a strategic scale, the player moves all of his militia on U.S. roads. During the fighting, the game passes tactical scale and each vehicle is represented individually.

To establish his militia, he must first recruit mercenaries in the different cities of the country. For this, he can send emissaries to the different gangs that control them, who can then decide to join the player or instead to fight him. Three types of characters play a leading role in the player's militia: the doctor, the sergeant and the politician. The first can heal the troops, the second ensure that they do not desert and increase their efficiency and the third manages relations with the other gangs. The player moves his militia on the U.S. roads aboard different types of vehicles, among the 19 present in the game. These can be used in combat and have features such as speed, acceleration, solidity and weapons. To win, the player must visit the 120 cities present in the game. In these, there can be food caches, pick up the one in the hands of opposing gangs, search for scientists able to find a vaccine against the virus that decimates the population and loot stores to maintain its militia.
