Game Mechanics

Phalsberg is a roleplay in the lineage of Ultra and Mandragore in which we will have to explore many regions and deliver a large number of fights. In the first place, the game proposes the making of the main character by customizing his skills (force, protection, charisma...) and his class (warrior, dwarf, magician, elf, thief and clerc). The choice of the number of points to be conceded for each aptitude is done randomly, a counter scrolls and when the player presses the fire button, the counter stops on a number. Each class corresponds to a number, so with a low strength, the player will not be able to choose the warrior class and will have to resume the creation of his avatar to zero. The use of a backup disk is then necessary to save your team. It goes without saying that the player can jump this step by choosing a default character allocated by the game.

The main type of representation is in view of the top, the top left part of the screen represents the map of Kalvor from which, by simple orientation of the Joystick, we have the possibility to scroll it. In card mode, you can travel on foot, on horseback or by boat. The right side of the screen gives information about our health, our money, time, date, our geographic position on the map and a menu based on key words to interact with our environment and the characters we met. The text area occupies the bottom of the screen and is destined to receive information about our progress, our discoveries and the content of our discussions with the PNJ.

In the cities, we can buy weapons and supplies. The meeting with the inhabitants of the Kalvor kingdom will allow to exchange information by composing the joystick of the phrases both fairly long and precise. To create a sentence, a series of verbs and keywords must be combined to learn more about our mission, the region visited and in general, get good addresses. In card mode, the player can go to dungeons to perform battles and recover valuable items. The fights take place in real time and with the white weapon except with a magician class character who can use spells.

To bring more coherence to the universe so portrayed, Phalsberg also proposes a whole series of concepts that were not necessarily widespread in the Game of Role in 1986. For example, it should be noted that the horse must be attached before entering a house or he will run away. The points of life decrease according to our load. Lost in a forest, the player to survive by sticking to the hunt. Of course, rest remains the best way to regain its health capital. The player can also hide for an ambush to an enemy, and his journey will lead him to acquire objects that will eventually resurrect innocent people. Finally, the race of our avatar and its charism will be two factors that will influence discussions with the NPCs.
