Game Mechanics

Mech Brigade is one wargame which simulates tactical battles between NATO and the USSR forces. The game takes place on randomly generated maps based on parameters defined by the player, such as forest density or river number. It offers four predefined scenarios, which influence the strategic position of the two armies at the beginning of a game and the number of laps needed to finish it, and also allows to create custom scenarios. He finally offers five different types of confrontations. The game can oppose two players or a player and the computer. Whoever commands NATO forces must choose the nationality of their forces ' United States, West Germany, United Kingdom or France, which affects the weapons at its disposal. The game uses the same game system as Kampfgruppe and the main differences between their game mechanisms derive from the context difference. In addition to the armoured and the transportation of troops, the game includes all the arsenal of vehicles of a modern army including helicopters, reconnaissance and command vehicles, self-propelled artillery pieces, mobile anti-aircraft batteries and anti-tank missile launchers. The units tend to have a greater reach and the artillery acquires the possibility of firing fumigant shells. The two games also differ in terms of organisation of the troops. Soviet forces are thus organized into battalions while NATO troops rely instead on an organisation in companies. The scale of the map or the fighting is the same as in Kampfgruppe. Like its predecessor, the game takes place in turn, each round being composed of two distinct phases. In the first, the players give orders to their units then, in the second, the computer executes these orders one by one alternate between each player. At the end of each round, points are assigned to players according to their success. These points make it possible to determine the winner after the last round of the game.
