About game

Game Mechanics

Eagles is one wargame which simulates, at the tactical level, air fighting between the German and the Allies during the last two years of the First World War. The game offers three individual scenarios. In the first, the player embodies the German pilot Werner Voss who pilots a Fokker Dr.I. After pursuing a French plane in perdition, he has to face a squadron of seven English aircraft commanded by James Mc Cudden. In addition to these three missions, the game also offers a series of mini-games, more detailed, and a complete campaign in which the player's character evolves as battles, depending on the number of aircraft shot. Depending on the game modes, the player can control the German or Allied aviation and face the computer or another player. Eighteen types of aircraft are available in the game, including balloons and reconnaissance aircraft. Fighting can involve up to twenty planes. Allied forces can only be composed of a single type of aircraft while German forces can include different types of aircraft. In addition to the characteristics of the aircraft, the game takes into account the ability of their pilots.

The game takes place on a three-dimensional map. The horizontal plane is divided into boxes representing 50 yards in each direction. A third dimension is added to the altitude, with each level representing 25 feet. The player can observe the area surrounding each aircraft, up to a distance of four boxes, through two screens representing the horizontal and vertical plane respectively. On the right of these two screens are listed the different aircraft it controls, with their altitude, and the list of accessible controls. Through the keyboard, the player gives orders to each of his planes. Orders allow him to move his plane forward from one box, try to move it forward from two boxes, get him fired in a direction or get him caught or lose altitude.
