Game Mechanics

Crusade in Europe is one wargame which simulates, at the operational level, the Allied offensive in Western Europe during the Second World War. The game features five scenarios that retrace the Battle of Normandy, the advance to the German border, Operation Market Garden, the Battle of the Ardennes and the entire campaign between June and October 1944. Each scenario proposes several variants, for a total of forty variants, which, for example, alter the duration of the scenario or the initial deployment of troops. In each scenario, the player can face the computer or another player. The computer can play any of the two camps and it is possible to change camp in the middle of a game. The scenarios take place in real time rather than in turn. The action is thus continuous and is not interrupted by towers or game phases. The player can therefore at any time give orders to his units, using the joystick or keyboard. Each unit has a certain degree of autonomy that allows it, for example, to choose the training to adopt and the road to go to reach the destination chosen by the player. The player can even allow his units to choose the best area to defend or the best target. Each scenario takes place on a strategic map, representing the entire battlefield. Only one portion of it is displayed on the screen and the player can scroll it to view the other portions.
