Game Mechanics

Rick Dangerous progresses in various places (cavern, Egyptian pyramid, medieval castle occupied by Nazis) whose traps he has to play. Controls are simple: management high allows to jump or climb, low to fall and diagonal-bas to crawl.

The button associated with a direction allows to use Rick's arsenal by maintaining "control" pressed at the same time: high to shoot a bullet, low to pose a bomb and left or right to strike with a stick (which has the effect of paralysing its enemies for a brief moment).

A feature universally recognized by the fans of the game is its difficulty. Indeed, the levels groan traps often hidden or practically impossible to avoid (herses falling without warning, pics hidden by the vertical scrolling, poisoned arrows splashing from one stroke). In addition, there is only a very limited amount of lives, and when all these are exhausted the player has to start again from the beginning. Similarly, the amount of bombs and bullets available to Rick decreases very quickly. We're getting ammunition in boxes. The character then reappears after each death normally at the last checkpoint.

The progression requires not only good reflexes, but also to proceed by trial/error until you know the layout of the level traps.
