Game Mechanics

The game is in 2D. The player embodies Ellen Ripley and his mission is to release a maximum of prisoners taken hostage by the fearsome Aliens. But following the platform, the mechanics is different. For Mega Drive, Master System, NES, Game Gear and Amiga versions, the game is more arcade-oriented. It appears as a platform game whose purpose is to save all prisoners before the time in labyrinthic levels. The aliens are numerous and the items (including health and ammunition) are pretty well hidden.

For the Super Nintendo version, the game takes place on a large card, a little like in an open world (although the whole card is accessible) but divided into different levels. Ripley must regularly connect to different terminals to select a mission from a predefined list of six. Once the six missions have been completed, Ripley has to face a queen and then moves to the next level. A new list of missions to be carried out is available with harder enemies to beat.

Missions may consist of saving a certain number of prisoners in a part of the card as in other versions, but there are also missions where, for example, the removal of pipes, killing all Facehuggers of a duct, recovering a number of care items in the infirmary, etc.

Each completed level gives access to a code to resume the progression where the player was. To distinguish the level of difficulty from the enemies, the game uses color-swapping, the enemies pass from black, red and blue.
