History
The game takes place in London in 2010. Chemicals spilled by accident in a garden trigger a genetic mutation of insects in the presence. The Horde ("Evil Herd" in the original version), an entity made up of several super-insect species with technology that allows them to fight with lasers and bombs. The goal of the Horde is to take possession of the garden, and throughout the world. To counter the Horde, another organization named the Resistance ("the Resistance") in the original version sends "Buck", a cyborg bee that will have to carry out some twenty missions before facing the queen who runs the Horde, a sort of mante.
Game Mechanics
- Interface: the interface of the game shows at all times the life bar, the extra lives, the gun roulette and the state of the ammunition, the acquired score, the sweep radar, and the timer.
- Controls: the controls are simple because they are stripped, but it is still possible to carry out very practical airworks, including making a pirouette or fly-face. The flight handling is especially easy, and its grip is also very fast.
- Weapons: Buck can use 10 different weapons, including standard pistols, pomegranates, electric arcs, and teleguided or head-searching projectiles. In a spying mission, Buck also uses a dark ray to capture specimens to study.
- Quest: the game is divided into 19 missions. Most will consist of destroying enemy installations, but it will also be possible to drop a bomb at a strategic location, capture enemy specimens in order to study them, intercept a flying convoy, destroy weapons of mass destruction, and finally fight the queen of the Horde. In each level, the player is subjected to a timer, and each mission accomplished, a total score is established.
- Exploration: the exploration is done mainly by flying, but Buck can land and walk (slowly) on the ground. The game areas are relatively large, although the exploitable height is low. The levels are divided into several zones, and the passage from one to another is done by transporters; it is possible to return back at any time, with a few exceptions.
- Enemies and hazards: enemies are generally advanced insects with offensive technologies. The enemies on the ground are blats, beetles, ants, a mantle (the queen). Flying enemies are mosquitoes, flies, wasps, frelons, butterflies, dragonflies, but also huge machinery. Some enemies are in the water points, this is the case of kennels and gerris. On the floor and against the walls there are also defense turrets. Finally, some enemies are generated automatically by nests or hives, and they should be destroyed before attacking individuals.
Among the natural hazards that Buck runs, we can mention the water points in which we drown, but also the flying mushrooms and mines that explode when approaching.
- CollecteAmong the items to be collected, we count the weapons (which restore the munitions once they have already been obtained), drops of nectar hanging from the flowers and restore the bar of life, and points of different values to consolidate the score.
