Last Starfighter, The

History

The film tells the story of Alex Rogan, a young man who lives with his mother and his little brother in a park of mobile homes (a mobile home community) named the "Starlite Starbrite" Alex shares his free time between his girlfriend Maggie and the inhabitants of the caravan, who keep asking him for help so that he can give them small services. Wanting to pursue his studies, however, he is denied his application for a student scholarship, which fills him with frustration and anger in the face of an existence that he considers to go nowhere.

When he finally finds a little free time for him, he spends him playing Starfighter, video game ? the arcade terminal at the caravan. The catch phrase of the game is: “Hi Starfighter, you were recruited by the Star League to defend the Frontier against Xur and the Ko-Dan armada ['] ». Playing a lot of this game, Alex becomes an expert.

One evening, Alex beats the record of the game under the admirative eyes of the inhabitants of the caravan. Shortly after, a strange vehicle arrives on the scene, from which a man emerges who comes to Alex like Centauri, the creator of the game. As a reward for defeating the high score, he invites him to take a ride in his amazing vehicle. Centauri is actually an alien and his car a spaceship; Alex is thus "absorbed" in space while at the same time an android of doppelgänger type named Beta (bestadroid in VF) comes out of the vehicle and takes its appearance to cover its absence on Earth.

After taking him aboard his vehicle to an alien space base, Centauri teaches Alex that the game Starfighter is actually a simulator designed to recruit those who have the ability to pilot a real stellar combat ship (the "with the gift") in order to counter the real threat of the alien conqueror Xur and the Ko-Dan armada to the "Frontière" of the starry league, of which is part the planet Rylos (the homeland of Centauri)' He also teaches him that Xur is a traitor from Rylos, whose emperor of Ko-Dan promised him control.

Alex, who must be the gunner of a Starfighter spacecraft called Gunstar, joins with his reptilien pilot, named Grig. He also learns that the Frontier is a space system generating a force field protecting Rylos and its surrounding planets from the Ko-Dan invasion, but that Xur gave the Ko-Dan the means to make it a breach.
