Game Mechanics

The player can practice freely and participate in full or mini Olympic Games (events selected by the player). During the competition, there are medals and points. While in the game Olympic Gold, the points were assigned according to the table of medals, they are here awarded according to the best results, as for the decathlon. Thus, it was perfectly possible to win the gold medal in the short run, and to get few more points than the other skaters (even non finalists) who had better qualifying times. This rating method also meant that a person who won the gold medal in six or seven trials could be outside the first ten if it was disqualified in the other three.

There are many differences between published versions for each system. Although this could be explained by a different hardware from 1993, it was possible to make a video game based on sprite-base on a 16-bit console using the PC version as a base. In this case, the differences were due to the choice of U.S. Gold to appeal to two companies developing separately from the different versions of the game and also to the development methodology of Tiertex, which used a different game programmer for each platform - each programming in a different assembly language (no porting). Among the major differences, the freestyle bumps are different on 16-bit versions, and overall the Super NES version is much more ruthless than the Mega Drive/Genesis version, while the Master System version is the one that allows better control over alpine ski runs.
