Game Mechanics
Battles of Napoleon is one wargame which simulates, at the tactical level, various battles of Napoleonic wars. The game offers four scenarios, which retraces the battle of Moskova, the Battle of Auerstaedt, the Battle of the Four Bras and the Battle of Waterloo respectively. It also incorporates a script editor that allows the player to create their own battles or to modify the existing scenarios. This includes customizing the battlefield, but also the organization of the armies, the units involved and the battle resolution tables. The game system Battles of Napoleon is similar to that of the four wargames previously developed by Chuck Kroegel and David Landrey and dedicated to the Secession War, with adaptations to take into account the historical change. Infantry units thus get the opportunity to adopt four different trainings, each with their advantages and disadvantages, and the game makes the part beautiful to the cavalry charges.
The game takes place in turn, each round corresponding to half an hour and is divided into several phases. The first, the order phase, allows the player to assign objectives and commanders to his units. It can then move to the phase of operations, when it moves its units, changes their direction and selects their target. If an enemy unit is visible and within range of fire, it can select it directly, but it can also select an empty a priori box if it suspects that an enemy unit is concealed there. After giving all these orders, the player can launch the combat phase, during which the computer solves all the fighting. At the end of each round, the player receives a report that informs him of the course of the battle. Each scenario lasts a predefined number of towers. During the game, win points are awarded to players according to the goals achieved and held. At the end of the game, the player with the most points is declared winner.
