About game

History

An extraterrestrial attack destroys the spacecraft "Arkanid" and leaves only one survivor: the ship "Vaus". Sent in another dimension by a mysterious enemy, Vaus will have to pass several security devices, then destroy "Doh", the alien responsible for the aggression.

Game Mechanics

The player moves from right to left a horizontal bar supposed to represent a spaceship. This tray, positioned at the bottom of the screen, allows to bounce a ball that will destroy blocks at the top of the screen. The player passes to the next level when all blocks are destroyed (except some indestructible blocks); the player loses a life every time he lets the ball go down the screen. The game consists of 32 levels.

The blocks have different colors indicating different properties:

  • any standard block touched by the ball is destroyed in one stroke;
  • any grey block must be hit several times to be broken (from 1 to 3 strokes, depending on the initial condition of the block);
  • any yellow block is indestructible (the ball bounces on it).

The destruction of a block sometimes allows to obtain a bonus or malus represented by a letter and activated when intercepted by the ship. Here are some examples of effects:

  • the size of the vessel increases or decreases (which offers more or less surface to bounce the ball)
  • the vessel is equipped with 2 guns to shoot the blocks;
  • a door opens and allows access to the next level;
  • the number of balls at stake is multiplied by three;
  • the ball speed increases or decreases;
  • the player gets an extra life;
  • the ball becomes black and can destroy all types of blocks, without bounce (limited bone in time);
  • a force field appears under the ship and prevents the ball from falling (limited bone in time, or dispelled if the ball hits the field more than a number of times).
  • the ship becomes magnet and retains the ball at its contact.
