About game

Game Mechanics

The goal of the game is to advance Hector in caves by eliminating the troglodytes (humans, fantastic creatures) and by defrauding the traps that stand on the way (chutes of stone, herses, soil that decays, etc.). The progression is "by failure." The character can hit the opponents with his fists, using a sword and, later in the adventure, a bow and arrows. The play area is composed of about 60 fixed screens that run horizontally or vertically. The game is quite short but the number of lives to finish it too, only three.

The player controls the character by selecting icons using the mouse pointer (or joystick, even if less practical). These symbols are located on a panel at the bottom of the game screen. There are nine different actions: walk to the left, to the right, climb/descendre stair/scale, stop, jump, attack, bet and run. By clicking on the right button, the player opens a second panel that displays the character's status, the game time, the number of arrows remaining, the weapons in the inventory as well as three related icons (burning the weapon, carrying it, throwing it). This control system is perfectly playable even if it requires adaptation time, especially to integrate the response time of the commands. It is also possible to use keyboard shortcuts (the F1, F2, etc) instead of the mouse.

Game time is crucial. In the last part of the game, after having shot Necron, a volcanic eruption threatens the hero: a countdown is displayed then and the player must escape from the underground before the count ends, synonymous with game over. The duration of the deposit being based on the time taken to arrive to Necron, it is better not to be too eager to reach it.
