Game Mechanics

Midway Campaign is one wargame which simulates the Battle of Midway that opposes the Empire of Japan and the United States in the Pacific Ocean in juin 1942during the Second World War. The player orders the Task Force 16 and 17 of the United States Navy, built around the Enterprise, Hornet and Yorktown aircraft carriers. It also controls the air forces that can take off from the Midway Islands. For its part, the computer controls the four carriers of the Japanese fleet. The game takes place on a grid of 12x12 cases. The American Midway base is represented by the letter M and the two Task Forces by figures 6 and 7. When enemy carriers are spotted, they are also represented by figures. Each U.S. aircraft carrier has three types of aircraft: the Grumman TBF Avenger and Douglas SBD Dauntless bombers and the Grumman F4F Wildcat fighter aircraft responsible for their protection. For their part, Japanese bombers include Nakajima B5N and Mitsubishi A6M fighters. These aircraft may be transferred between the storage compartment and the deck, before being armed and launched. Once in flight, aircraft may be assigned to air patrols or be sent to face Japanese aircraft. In addition to the aircraft, the player can control his Task Force for which he can decide the direction to take.
