Mayhem is the first game to understand the twelve pay-per-views of the WCW as well as the three major emissions of the WCW including Nitro, Thunder, and Saturday Night. It is also the first wrestling game, marketed in the United States, to include the changing environment, a point that will be extended in the following opus WCW Backstage Assault; also the first to integrate audio comments from Bobby Heenan and Tony Schiavone(en). In addition, it includes a Rey Mysterio Jr. without mask and a mode Pay-Per-View unique to other games, in which the player can enter a code to unlock real pay-per-view posters; these codes were given to WCW Monday Nitro broadcast the week before the pay-per-view. However, this would last only three months, as the game was no longer up to date with all the start of the wrestlers of the federation.
