Game Mechanics
B-1 Nuclear Bomber is one wargame which puts the player in charge of a B-1 Lancer bomber stationed at the Thulé airbase to penetrate the anti-aircraft defenses of the Soviet Union in order to carry out a bombing. The game is devoid of graphics and relies only on an online command interface. At the beginning of a game, the program assigns a target to him and communicates the code necessary for armed the only bomb he carries. He also informs him about his secondary objectives and enemy defensive installations. The player can then define his flight plan and his cruise altitude. On the journey, it can use automatic steering, to speed up the flow of time. His browser informs him of his position and the distance that separates him from his targets. An order also allows him to search for Soviet defensive installations in the area. When the player passes close to one of them, the Soviets try to intercept it with MIG fighters or destroy it with ground-air missiles. The player can then use an electronic countermeasures device or avoidance measures to escape them, or attempt to destroy them with one of its six AIM-54 Phoenix missiles. Once his bomb is armed, the Soviet radar detects the player's plane more easily. The player must then take altitude and drop his bomb, before attempting to return to his base. If he succeeds and has enough fuel to land, he realizes that his crew was irradiated.
