Game Mechanics
The Sega SG-1000 version has the specificity of offering an introduction and extended final sequences as well as a tutorial before the first level.
Chack is a small yellow creature with extensible legs that must cross a series of labyrinths occupying each the size of a screen. Chack has the ability to walk on floors or ceilings but not on walls. He can climb stairs or cross walls by extending his legs sufficiently. It is capable of launching hand grenades that explode in a smoke cloud after a short period of time. Separate buttons allow these grenades to be thrown to the left or to the right. Chack dies if he is in the smoke cloud at the time of the explosion.
Each level must be completed in a limited time symbolized by a Mighta, a fantasy character, located at the top of each labyrinth and pushing a rock over the entire width of the screen. Mighta reappears in Bubble Bobble as a recurring enemy.
The goal is to reach the top of the screen before the end of the time. Chack is delayed in its objective by a series of blocking walls. To make these walls disappear, he must, with the help of his hand grenades, release the urs locked in cages.
Monstas, whale-shaped enemies (also appearing in Bubble Bobble), constitute an additional obstacle. These monstas come out of round eggs hanging on the walls. Hand grenades allow to destroy the monstas or 'ufs from which they emanate (although, the player receives bonus points at the end of a level if he did not kill any enemy). Advanced levels include moving platforms and other reminiscence Bubble Bobble, water bottles that flood the level. Water does not destroy anything and does not slow down enemies but it allows Chack to swim to reach platforms otherwise inaccessible.
