Game Mechanics

The player pilots a spaceship that can only move from left to right at the bottom of the screen and that has only a simple shot. The enemy ships are trying to bomb the player. Like in Galaxian (also a game of Namco), ships can go down to the player and try to kill him by collision or bombardment. Some vessels ("mothership" or "Occupation Galaga") have the option of approaching the player's ship and capturing it.

One of the major assets of Galaga compared to its predecessors is the possibility for a single player to play with two ships simultaneously. To do this, the player must perform the following work:

1. Getting caught by a mothership;
2. Allow the mothership to reach its place at the top of the screen;
3. Hold until the mothership, accompanied by the captured ship, attacks again;
4. Shoot the mother ship and destroy it (taking care not to touch the captured ship);
5. The captured ship sits next to the player's first ship.

After this work, the player has two ships and can shoot two shots simultaneously. However, he plays with two lives at a time. It is also twice as vulnerable as its two vessels constitute a target twice as large.
