Lylat Wars

History

Andross, an extradited mad scientist on the distant planet Venom, is on the move to dominate the solar system of Lylat and to submit the planet Corneria to its black designs. General Pepper then appealed to Star Fox's mercenary team, led by Fox McCloud, son of James McCloud, former head of Star Fox. James McCloud was betrayed by a former team member, Pigma Dengar, who delivered him to Andross.

The game is inspired on some aspects of Star Warsor even the parody:

• the name of the apparatus, Arwing, is inspired by the name of X-Wings (phonetically, R says "are" in English, from where R-Wing)
• the Rob64 Robot that guides and manages the mother ship "Great Fox» plays a similar role to R2-D2; and it looks like C-3PO
• the voice of Fox's father who guides him recalls the advice of Obi-Wan Kenobi, when Luke is about to destroy the first Star of Death;
• The explosion of the robot or biological weapon of Andross and the way Fox's ship carries out a half-looping to escape the explosion resembles the destruction of the second Star of Death by the Han Solo ship;
• at the final scene of the video game, Fox and his acolytes are welcomed by General Pepper and the Cornerian army in a scene similar to that which completes the film A new hope;
• the title of the game Lylat Wars is an obvious reference to Star Wars.

The game also parodys the film Independence Day:

• on Katina, the enemy mothership and the enemy minor ships resemble those of the film. The mothership's main weapon is also directly inspired by the film;
• on Bolse, the shields of protection of enemy ships resemble those of the enemy ships of the film.

Game Mechanics

By playing adventure mode, the player plays Fox. The missions that play the adventure usually end with the clash of an end-of-level boss, the difficulty increasing as we approach Venom, the bastion of the final boss.

Several aspects will be noted in the context of the environment in which we are located.

The power of the boost (capacity to brake or accelerate) of the Arwing (name of the device used by Fox) depends on an atmosphere presence. If the mission takes place on a planet (for example, on Corneria, Katina, Fortuna, Solar, Zones, Bolse or Venom) the flame of the aeroplane reactor is pink in colour and the boost is able to launch a much more powerful and long acceleration than in space. The accomplishment of a looping does not use the whole boost energy bar as it is in space. The flame turns blue in these space missions.

Among all the bosses you will have to defeat, some fights will take place in the type "all-range mode" or "targeted combat mode", that is to say, it is possible to move on the whole terrain for confrontation, while others will take place on a predefined path. This kind of fight takes place for example in Cornéria or Fortuna and Katina.Here are the Planets Courses by Difficulty:

• EASY: Cornéria, Meteo, Fortuna, Sector X, Titania, Bolse
• NORMAL: Katina, Solar, Macbeth
• HARD: Sector Y, Aqua, Zones, Sector Z, Aire 6, Venom
